USA: Is it still No.1 study destination?

Here’s a question to all you overseas education aspirants. Which country is the most popular destination of choice of international students?

Australia? Canada? UK?

No, the answer is the United States of America.

Yes, despite Trump and his tweets and immigration policy, USA still attracts more international students than any other country in the world. In fact, according to Institute of International Education, more than 1 million students chose to study in the US in 2018. In second place was UK with nearly half a million students. Other destinations like Australia and Canada were in top 5.

So why do international students still want to go to the US?

World university rankings are dominated by US universities. More than 50% of the world’s top 50 university are American universities, according to QS World Ranking 2019. US universities have fantastic teaching and research facilities.

Work experience and study

Studying in the US isn’t just about studying. International students are allowed to work on-campus during term time (up to 20 hours) and vacation period. There are also options to do summer internships. Moreover, after finishing their studies, international students have the option to apply for extension of up to 3 years (science and engineering graduates: 3 years, others: 1 year) through optional practical training (OPT) scheme.
